SUMMARY
This position will be home-based in Kansas. Support will come from our North American headquarters in Sterling Heights, Michigan. This position of Field Service “Mechatronics” Engineer/Technician will travel to customers’ plants. Most often this individual will work in Indiana, but on occasion Ohio. Some training time will be required in Sterling Heights, Michigan.
This person will coordinate the installation of new Company machines or retool machines in the customer’s plants or facilities, as well as provide support for field changes, retrofits, repair, service and reworks on existing machines in the field. This person will be responsible for sharing ideas for process improvements and other cost saving measures to management. Effective communication skills are key.
Here are some projects this person will oversee:
- Installation and servicing of machines in the customer’s plant in coordination with customer personnel and outside contractors,
- Machine qualification: Meet contract specifications such as, but not limited to, cycle time, part quality, tool life, applications.
- Production runs to verify that the machine functions properly under production standards
This person will also:
- Instruct and train customer personnel in the proper operation and maintenance of machines,
- Perform service and or warranty calls.
- Make the necessary repairs and/or recommend the appropriate corrective action,
- Use established quality and environmental systems, including job procedures, work instructions and forms,
- Complete service reports, progress reports, checklists and correspondence to internal and external colleagues, customers and suppliers,
- Ability to analyze and interpret mechanical assembly, electrical, hydraulic and lube systems,
- Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
Job Requirements
- Proficient as a mechanic understanding basic CNC machines, ideally in metal removal
- Strong Mechanical ability
- General knowledgeable in Siemens, FANUC, Bosch Rexroth Control PLC
- Ability to conduct software system tests for functionality, diagnostics and machine recovery procedures. These functions will be supported by Controls Engineers in MAG Sterling Heights
- Ability to document conditions under which tests are conducted, sequences and phases of test operations in simulation programs and/or at actual machine.
- Project/Plan erection procedure. Skill to fit, adjust, and align parts as necessary.
- Ability to erect completed standard or special machine on floor, assemble sub-assemblies previously assembled by self or others, and various other parts. Fit, adjust, and perform preliminary alignment with assistance of the assembler group personnel or contractors.
- Perform various hand or simple power machine operations such as drilling, tapping, reaming, filing, etc., as required.
- Knowledge in final test operations on machine following specifications
- Experience in operating machine to produce sample parts inspected after each operation and completion of part.
- Disassemble completed machines for shipping, properly identifying all parts to facilitate erection at customer’s facility.
Education / Experience Requirements
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with 10 to 15 years of machine tool (Metal Removal) experience in a skilled trade, or
- Associate’s degree (A.A.) plus 6 to 10 years of machine tool experience in a skilled trade, or
- Completion of a formal apprenticeship program or Certifications
- Degree in Mechatronics. Electrical, Controls, or combination of related education and experience
- Valid Driver’s License
Other Requirements
May be required to occasionally work split or alternate shifts. Must be able to travel for extended periods as required for customer installations.
