SUMMARY
Directs, coordinates, and exercises functional authority for design, analysis, and maintenance of engineering projects within area of assigned responsibility by performing the following duties. Keeps the effort within budgeted hours, costs, and schedules.
This position requires intimate knowledge of the machine tool industry, particularly in CNC metal-removal applications serving OEM and Tier 1 and 2 customers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Perform all work following documented departmental procedures and work instructions and utilizing the appropriate forms.
- Direct the product design in accordance with the specifications, cost targets, and schedule requirements.
- Generate and maintain appropriate records, reports and required documentation.
- Manage engineering associates, several direct reports, and subcontractors.
- Coordinate and document research and development projects.
- Coordinate engineering budgets, quotes, and schedules.
- Maintain engineering of standard designs.
- Coordinate FMEA, FEA, VA, and DFA/DFM activities.
- Arrange design review meeting with engineering, supply chain, and manufacturing personnel.
- Adhere to quality, customs, foreign trade zone and environmental processes and procedures.
- Coordinate efforts of other departments/disciplines to maintain effective control multiple ongoing projects.
- Manage suppliers of all project-related equipment and/or tooling.
- Communicate with customers regarding design related issues.
- Seek new innovations, materials, components, etc. for integration into current design projects.
- Share ideas about process improvements and other cost saving measures with management.
QUALIFICATIONS
- BS Mechanical Engineer or relative Experience/Education
- 10+ years of experience in machine tool, specific to metal cutting machines
- Experience and knowledge with the following components, parts, and assemblies:
KNOWLEDGE WORKING IN THE FOLLOWING:
- Ball screws, Linear guides, Bearings, Gear train / power transmission, Spindles, Tooling, Linear motors, Hydraulics, Pneumatics, Modal – FFR / Forced Frequency Response, Lubrication, Cooling
